Ms Transgender 2007 Beauty Pageant

When the idea to hold a pageant here in Houston took root, I decided, along with Marlene, that I should compete. However, I still at this time was not so full of grace and femininity and had a "bull in a glass house" walk. Not very feminine!

As I found out the events of the evening, I began to have second thoughts about my wanting to participate in this first ever event. Talent event? I have no talent!!! My only "talent" was flying airplanes and being a safety engineer... and I was sure that that was not going to suffice for the talent event. Then as a participant, I was to model an evening gown? I began to wonder if there was an evening gown large enough to fit, must less tall enough for me. Talk about second guessing... I was the one who worried.

Getting ready for the pageant, I would not practice my lip sync song in front of Marlene, or anyone else for that matter. When I did practice (in private) the Stevie Nicks song, "Sometimes a Bitch," the cats would scatter in horror! I could only imagine about rotten tomatoes being thrown at me when it came time to perform.

As the day arrived, my little sister came to Houston to watch me participate. She even had to borrow one of my dresses for the occasion - which made me feel more anxious and nervous.

This event was held to help raise money for the Diamond of Hope foundation that assisted other less fortunate individuals to pay for medicines, doctor visits, work training, etc... I was able to raise $1,500.00 dollars towards the event by seeking donations from business organizations.

Knowing Vanity like I did, she really wanted to help others as she has done before. I am proud to have been one of the ladies that participated in this event. Vanity has my deepest and warmest gratitude for being such a leader in the Houston community.

By the way, "No tomatoes were harm during this event"
